Glossary

Advanced mode

An arbitrary cutting of a puzzle. Single pieces can have a lot of various shapes. The puzzle can include holes and the shape of the puzzle does not have to be only rectangular. To create such a puzzle is slightly more difficult but it is worth it.

Context Menu

A menu pertained a concrete object (e.g. album, puzzle, selection and so on). You can elicit this menu by moving the cursor on a certain object and clicking the right mouse button.

Minimal size of a piece

The smallest size of a piece is defined by the monitor resolution. It is impossible to play with pieces sized 1 x 1 pixel, therefore the minimal size of a piece in the program is limited to 10 x 10 pixels. The Create Room will not allow you to make smaller pieces.

There are more monitor resolutions (800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 768 ...) and if a friend sends you a puzzle and his/her monitor resolution is higher than yours, while entering the Play Room a following situation may arise: the puzzle scales down suitably for your resolution, together with the puzzle also every piece scales down and if the size of such a piece drops under the minimal size, the number of pieces will change. In this (rare) case the number of pieces displayed in the icon representing a puzzle do not correspond with the number of pieces displayed and played in the Store Room.

Number of pieces

The number of pieces a puzzle is composed from. The number of pieces displayed in the icon representing a puzzle may not agree with the number of pieces displayed and played in the Store Room in scarce cases. See Minimal size of a piece.

OpenGL

OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a standard specification defining a cross-language cross-platform API (Application Programming Interface) for writing applications that produce 3D computer graphics.

Room main menu

It is a small panel with buttons, which can be found in every room. It contains the most important commands for the entire room. The last button is "Back", which sends you to the previous room, or "Exit", which closes the entire program.

Standard mode

A  regular network of lines, which are bulged by every piece a little bit. The whole puzzle can have only a rectangular shape and cannot include holes.

Supported formats

To play music and movies the operating system is used. What can be played by movie or music players embedded in the operating system, that can by played by __PRODUCT_NAME__. The following formats are commonly at your disposal: MP3, AVI, WMV, MPG. When sending a puzzle to your friends you had better use well-known and widespread formats and their versions. If you cannot play a certain movie puzzle, see FAQ.

Surprise

It is an attribute of a puzzle. A player cannot see the puzzle picture before solving the whole puzzle. That is why such a puzzle cannot be printed, modified, you cannot see its view in the Store Room and you cannot use the "Ghost" or "Image" option in the Play Room. After solving the puzzle loses this attribute. This attribute can be added in the Create Room, Modify Room or when sending the puzzle.

Can I create my own jigsaws?

Yes. See How to create a puzzle?

Top

Are there any additional jigsaw puzzle sets?

Yes. There are various editions composed from high-quality pictures taken by professional photographers prepared for you. Visit our website or see How to order?

Top

I am solving a puzzle and cannot find some pieces. What shall I do?

There can be three reasons:

  1. The missing pieces are covered with other pieces, a window or a menu. Use Tools->Disarrange and then Tools->Arrange->At Edge. The missing pieces should appear in the top left corner of the room desktop.
  2. The missing pieces are stored in a tray. If there is a tray on the room desktop and if it is minimized, open it.
  3. The author of the puzzle eliminated the missing pieces deliberately. Note: This is only possible in the Advanced mode in the Create Room.

Top

Why cannot I export and mail any puzzles?

It is not possible to export and mail the original (from editions) puzzles. You can export and mail your own puzzles.

Top

Can I create my own templates?

Yes, you can. We use the EMF format for templates. To create templates use a vector editor, which can save or export images to the EMF format (e.g. free OpenOffice.org Draw). Only outlines will be used in the game, so there is no need to use fillings, gradients, bitmaps or colors. It is necessary to convert text to curves.

How to create a puzzle with an irregular shape?

  1. Open an image in the Create Room and set cutting.
  2. Click on the Mode... button to convert it to the advanced mode (check "Convert current cutting lines...").
  3. To modify the cutting use the tools from the Advanced Mode Tools panel - pen, line... and templates. E.g. click on Templates and open Other\Circle.emf, enlarge the selection (tip: use Fit to Image in the Selection context menu) and drop it (press Enter or select Drop from the selection context menu).
  4. Erase the lines you do not want to have in the puzzle.

Top

Is there a way how to select just the edge pieces?

If you arrange pieces at the edge of the desktop (Tools/Arrange/At Edge) the pieces will be arranged in a spiral along the whole edge of the desktop. The edge pieces are sorted out from the beginning of the spiral (from left-top to right-top...).

The displaying in the gallery is slow. What shall I do?

The game uses OpenGL for displaying. Nowadays all video cards and their drivers support OpenGL. If you have problems anyway, we advise you to download and install the latest driver for your card from the producer's website.

I obtained a movie puzzle from a friend but it does not work. What shall I do?

Movies and background music are played by an operating system. Your friend probably used a format which is not supported in your operating system. You should download and install the proper codec. We recommend to download and install a codec pack. See also Minimum system requirements (DirectX).

Why is the size of an album bigger than a total size of puzzles included?

Every puzzle has a few additional files. These files allow a faster start or quicker move to the Play Room. One of the files also carries information about the state you left the Play Room in. The size of an album displayed in Album Properties denotes the sum of sizes of all these files. The displayed size correspond precisely to the room taken by an album from your hard disk. The size of a puzzle displayed in Info panel denotes the size without the additional files.

Why does a puzzle have a different number of pieces in the Store Room and in the Play Room?

The number of pieces displayed in the Store Room corresponds to the number of pieces of a puzzle made in the Create Room. If you send a puzzle to someone whose screen is smaller then some pieces are too small and can be fused with adjacent pieces. That's why the number of pieces in the Play Room can be smaller.
